Dr. Piper completed her undergraduate training (BSc and MSc, Biology) in Germany at the University of Hamburg and Oldenburg respectively. Dr. Piper moved to Australia and performed her PhD research at the University of Sydney on membrane repair in a rare muscle diseases and cancer. She graduated in 2018 and has since been working as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) at the University of Wollongong, Australia. In 2022 Dr. Piper undertook a 6-months post-doctoral placement at the Institute for Tumour Biology (ITB) in Hamburg, Germany under the supervision of PD. Dr. habil. Simon Joosse and Prof. Klaus Pantel. Dr. Piper is an enthusiastic, driven, and motivated cancer researcher with an outstanding international research background spanning across 10 different institutes between Germany and Australia. She is an accomplished and innovative cancer biologist with over 10 years of research experience. Dr. Piper is a resourceful, confident, and ambitious future leader with a can-do attitude and a great team-player personality. She has independently established an impressive network of national and international collaborations. In addition to being a passionate scientist, Dr. Piper is also a devoted mother of three young children including a pair of 3-year-old twins and a 6-year-old. She enjoys the challenge of organising her family life while also accelerating her research career.
