Professor Nikola Bowden is Co-Director of the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute Centre for Drug Repurposing and Medicines Research and the Vanessa McGuigan HMRI Fellow in Ovarian Cancer Research. She was recently appointed as the Chief Investigator of the NSW Regional Cancer Research Network, a Cancer Institute NSW Translational Cancer Research Capacity Building Grant.
Prof Bowden’s research investigates DNA repair, immunotherapy and drug repurposing for melanoma and ovarian cancer. She leads the MRFF-funded Australian Program for Drug Repurposing for Treatment Resistant Ovarian Cancer and several Investigator-initiated clinical trials for treatment-resistant cancers in collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Industry. Prof Bowden has previously held Chair of the Australian Academy of Science Early and Mid-Career Researcher Forum; and funding from Cancer Australia, Cure Cancer Australia, Cancer Institute NSW Career Development Fellowship and a NHMRC Training Fellowship.
